The U.S. Navy Memorial filled up with over 200 Naval Intelligence professionals and friends on Friday, 4 October to celebrate the U.S. Navy’s 250th birthday. The reception, called “Naval Intelligence Salutes 250,” was co-sponsored by the Chief of Naval Intelligence (CNI) and NIP, and it was a tremendous success despite a last-minute venue change due to the government shutdown.
NIP helped in paying tribute to the late Commander (Ret) Trentwell “Pete" White at a memorial luncheon held in his honor on Monday, 6 October. Pete passed away on 25 August at age 93 after a brief battle with pneumonia.
Chuck Sams, who was ISSN Sams on the USS Ranger (CV-61) in 1991 during Operation Desert Storm, received the Lone Sailor Award at the U.S. Navy Memorial’s Lone Sailor Awards dinner on 9 September in Washington, D.C.
On 15 August 2025, Navy Geospatial Intelligence Warfare Activity (NGIWA) held a change of command ceremony, during which CAPT Michael Tiefel relieved CAPT Caroline Rochfort.
IWRON PILOT APPROVED: O’Connor and McLellan Named to Lead First Two Squadrons
In June, the Information Warfare (IW) Squadron (IWRON) pilot was unanimously approved by USFF, CPF, and CNE/CNA at the Fleet Commanders’ Readiness Council (FCRC). This initiative will stand up two IWRONs this Fall: IWRON TWO on the East Coast, led by CAPT Jon O’Connor, and IWRON NINE on the West Coast, led by CAPT Edward “Doc” McLellan.
Naval Intelligence Commemorates 83rd Anniversary of the Battle of the Coral Sea
On Friday, May 9, Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence (DDNI) Steve Parode hosted a commemorative cake-cutting ceremony at the Pentagon in honor of the 83rd anniversary of the World War II Battle of the Coral Sea.
On a beautiful spring day in April, one hundred and twenty NIP members and guests gathered at the Army Navy Country Club for the annual Red Tie Luncheon to honor this year’s Red Tie award winners: Mr. Bob Wilson (posthumously) and Captain (Ret) Dale Rielage. The guest speaker was Vice Admiral Trey Whitworth, Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).
Janes U.S. hosted an extremely informative and engaging event for the NIP Capital Chapter on 23 April 2025 in Arlington, Virginia, with over 30 NIP members attending.

The Naval Intelligence Flag wardroom gathered in force at the U.S. Naval Academy on Wednesday, 22 January to welcome the seven USNA midshipmen who were selected for intelligence (1830): Midshipmen 1/C Sierra Paoli, Emma Kirby, Andreas Huscher, Cooper Walshe, Jaimeson Meyer, Julia Davidson, and Nathan Li.
