Naval Intelligence Professionals (NIP) is a tax-exempt educational and charitable Foundation. Through the Rear Admiral Sumner Shapiro Scholarship Program, NIP recognizes future leaders who’ve exhibited exceptional potential to contribute to naval intelligence and related national security goals.
55th Naval Intelligence Officers’ Dining-In a Success!
On 7 December, the Naval Intelligence Officers’ Dining-in made a one-time excursion from its usual October D.C.-area convening, and it was a rousing success. The new Fluegel Alumni Center in Annapolis, Maryland provided a beautiful venue for the event, which drew a crowd of 161 participants, to include six master chiefs, a strong showing from our chief warrant officers, and all 11 U.S. Naval Academy midshipmen who were recently selected for intelligence (1830).
Mr. Steve Parode assumed responsibilities as the Deputy Director of Naval Intelligence and Director, Naval Intelligence Activity in November. He is also the acting DNI until Vice Admiral Karl Thomas arrives.
NIP elected retired Captain Steve Horrell as its new president at the annual General Membership and Board of Directors Meeting on Friday, 27 October 2023. Captain Horrell took over the position from retired Captain Bill Bray, who served for an exceptional six years.
NIP Partners with USS Midway Museum to Refurbish CVIC Spaces
Naval Intelligence Professionals has agreed to partner with the USS Midway Museum to completely refurbish the carrier intelligence center (CVIC) spaces in the popular San Diego attraction. Retired Rear Admiral Terry Kraft, the USS MidwayMuseum’s president and CEO, enthusiastically endorsed the project during a meeting with NIP Chairman, retired Vice Admiral Bob Sharp, pointing out the critical value his (Kraft’s) intelligence teams provided to him during his years on active duty.
NIP Decides Not to Hold Annual Golf Tournament in NCR in 2023
Due to a number of factors, NIP will not be hosting its Annual Golf Tournament in the National Capital Region this year. We are in the process of finalizing other exciting ways for the membership to contribute to NIP and to help us make a difference. Those will be announced shortly.
Captain (ret) JTodd Ross Pays Tribute to Fallen Naval Intelligence Officer in Memorial Day Remarks
Captain (ret) JTodd Ross and his wife Traci live on Penn National Golf Course during the summer months. It is a retirement community, not too far from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, with more than 1200 members. Each year the community holds an annual remembrance on Memorial Day morning that includes music, prayers, stories, etc. This year, JTodd was asked to be the keynote speaker because members of the community had heard he “was in the Navy.”
NIP Foundation Committee Seeking Director for Foundation’s Annual Golf Tournament
The Naval Intelligence Foundation sponsors an annual golf tournament, which is critical to supporting the NIF scholarship program, but we need a motivated individual to serve as the director for the tournament, responsible for organizing the event.
2022 NIP-Sponsored Award Winners for ONI Announced
NIP Chair VADM (Ret) Bob Sharp, and COMONI, RADM Mike Studeman, presented the 2022 NIP-sponsored awards for ONI’s Sailors of the Year, Junior Officers of the Year, and the Civilian Leadership award at ONI’s annual award’s ceremony on 23 March 2023.
