Captain “Doc” McLellan assumed command of IWRON NINE in conjunction with the establishment of the squadron on 27 February in San Diego, California. The ceremony took place on USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71). NIP Chapter San Diego held a social two days prior, on 25 February, to commemorate the occasion and congratulate Captain McClellan.

NIP’s San Diego Chapter was pleased to host a social gathering at the Wild Hare Bar Garden on Monday, 9 February to welcome everyone who was in town for the AFCEA West convention. It was a perfect chance to connect with fellow intelligence and information warfare professionals in a relaxed and welcoming setting on a lovely San Diego evening. We had a large turnout including several current and retired VIPs. This was a wonderful moment to build new relationships and strengthen existing ones on the San Diego waterfront.

On Friday, 19 September, NIP San Diego held its 19th Annual San Diego Charity Golf Tournament at NAS North Island’s Sea-N-Air Golf course in San Diego, and it was a tremendous success. The event raised over $4000 for NIP and local charitable causes, thanks to strong corporate support.

NIP San Diego hosted another successful social in conjunction with AFCEA WEST 2025. Countless Naval Intelligence professionals from out of town gathered together with San Diego locals for an epic night of camaraderie at McGregor’s Irish Pub on 30 January 2025. VIPs included IBoss Vice Admiral Mike Vernazza, COMONI RADM Mike Brooks, RADM (Ret) Paul Becker, RDML (Ret) Bruce Loveless and our very own NIP Chair VADM Bob Sharp.

Tournament raises over $5,000 for charitable causes.

In conjunction with the C3F/ONI Waterfront Conference taking place in San Diego, NIP Chapter San Diego hosted a social event at Harbor Town Pub. Longtime NIP San Diego committee member, Stan Kowalsky, presented a NIP San Diego chapter coin to CAPT Ed McLellan during the event. (June 2024)

San Diego announced in March 2024 that Curatorial and Admin volunteer, Phil Eakin was been selected by the Health and Human Services Department - Aging and Independent Services Program as one of the 2024 County Volunteers of the Year for his exceptional contributions to the USS Midway Museum.

The NIP social in San Diego that was held in conjunction with the 2024 AFCEA West Conference drew a huge crowd and was a great success.

On 25 August 2023, NIP’s San Diego chapter held its 17th annual charity golf tournament at the Admiral Baker Golf Course, raising over $4,000 and bringing over 80 golfers together for some fun and a good cause.
