New York Chapter News

The members of the NIP’s New York Chapter regret to advise that their shipmate, Commander Charles “Chuck” E. Johnson, III, of Holmdel, New Jersey, passed away on 31 July 2025.

On 3 June 2022, 21 NIP members, family, and friends met at the City Island Yacht Club in the Bronx to commemorate the Battle of Midway. Significantly, this event also marked more than four score years of a Naval Intelligence presence in the New York metropolitan area.

COVID-19 has had a singularly chilling effect upon NIP New York’s usual social events. Both of our normally scheduled annual events had to be cancelled in 2020 because of the pandemic, which tragically also took the lives of two of our long-time members. We look forward to the resumption of those, and other, events as soon as possible.
