TAPS: Fran Gaskin, Longtime Protocol Officer at ONI, Passes Away 7 July 2024

Frances “Fran” Muriel Gaskin passed away peacefully on 7 July 2024, in Springfield, Virginia. Born on 27 October 27 1930 in Belmont, North Carolina, Fran's journey through life was marked by dedication, love, and an enduring spirit that touched the lives of many.

Fran's professional life was as notable as her personal one. She dedicated 41 years of service to the Office of Naval Intelligence, where she held the esteemed position of a Protocol Officer in the Admiral's Office. Her commitment to excellence and her ability to navigate complex diplomatic situations with grace and poise earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Fran's work ethic and professionalism were not just a career but a testament to her character.

Despite her demanding career, Fran's heart always belonged to her family. She is survived by her loving daughter, Teresa, and son-in-law, Kevin. Fran was a proud grandmother to Ashley and her husband Matt, Sean and his wife Megan, and Tommy, her special grandson whom she adored and cared for with immense joy. She was also a doting great-grandmother to Malachi, Ezekiel, and Irie.

Fran is also survived by her sister Sandy (Ed) along with many nieces, nephews, and a host of blended family members, who will forever remember her nurturing presence. She treated every individual in her extended family as her own, providing guidance and love without reservation. Fran is preceded in death by her brother, Max.

Her interests outside of work and family were a reflection of her passion and zest for life. Fran was an ardent fan of the Washington Nationals and could often be found cheering for her favorite baseball team from the comfort of her living room. Her faith was a cornerstone of her existence, and she devoted herself to living a life filled with compassion and spirituality.

One of Fran's greatest joys was spending time with her grandson Tommy, helping him navigate the challenges of life with patience and kindness. Together, they shared countless hours assembling puzzles, an activity that symbolized the intricate and beautiful tapestry of their special bond.

Fran's legacy is one of love, resilience, and quiet strength. Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family and friends. Frances Muriel Gaskin lived a life of purpose and meaning, and her memory will be cherished forever.
