CAPT “Doc” McLellan Assumes Command of IWRON NINE

Captain “Doc” McLellan assumed command of IWRON NINE in conjunction with the establishment of the squadron on 27 February in San Diego, California. The ceremony took place on USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71). NIP Chapter San Diego held a social two days prior, on 25 February, to commemorate the occasion and congratulate Captain McClellan.

IWRON NINE is the second squadron established under the 48-month pilot program, and the first squadron on the West coast. IWRON TWO was established on 5 December on the East coast, with Captain Jon O’Connor assuming command. The squadrons are designed to operationalize Information Warfare (IW) capabilities and provide decisive decision advantage to Carrier Strike Group Commanders. “To maintain our war fighting edge, we must think, act, and operate differently. We must evolve,” said Vice Admiral Mike Vernazza, Commander, Naval Information Forces.
