CAPT Matt J. Cegelske, USN
Information Warfare Commander, Carrier Strike Group TEN (CSG-10).
Captain Cegelske attended Maine Maritime Academy and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Systems Engineering. He was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps program in 2001. After the Submarine community, he transferred into the Information Professional Community in 2006; which is part of the U.S. Navy’s larger Information Warfare Community. Captain Cegelske’s command assignments include Cyber Defense Activity SIXTY FOUR as the plank-owning Commanding Officer; Cyber National Mission Force, as Commander Task Force FOUR, and Naval Computer & Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic Detachment Hampton Roads, as Officer in Charge. Captain Cegelske’s afloat assignments include USS ALEXANDRIA (SSN 757), with deployments in the Atlantic and the Western Pacific, via the Arctic, supporting Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and ENDURING FREEDOM; Carrier Strike Group One (CCSG-1 embarked USS CARL VINSON), as the Communications Officer, supporting Operations UNIFIED RESPONSE, ENDURING FREEDOM, and NEW DAWN; and Expeditionary Strike Group Three (ESG-3) as the Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Collaboration, and Intelligence (C5I) Assistant Chief of Staff, supporting Operation PACIFIC REACH.
Captain Cegelske’s ashore assignments include U.S. Central Command, serving as an Executive Officer in the Joint Operations Center; Defense Threat Reduction Agency serving as an Information Systems Officer, Program Manager and Contracting Officers Representative for major Research and Development modeling systems; Carnegie Mellon University as a Cyber Federal Executive Fellow; Deputy Chief of Naval Operations, Information Dominance (OPNAV N2N6) as Deputy Executive Assistant; and the Joint Chiefs of Staff, J6, Cyberspace Division, as Chief of the Cyber Policy Branch.
Captain Cegelske reported to Carrier Strike Group TEN (CCSG-10) in September 2021. He recently completed an eight and a half month deployment to the European theater.
He has a Masters of Science in Management, Strategy and Security, American University, Kogod School of Business. Additionally, he holds a Masters of Science degree in Technology Management from University of Maryland, is a Massachusetts Institute of Technology Seminar XXI fellow, holds the Certified Information Systems Security Professional and Certified Information Security Manager certifications, and is a part of the Navy’s Acquisition Corps.
