NIP Capital Chapter Welcomes NIOBC Class 26040 to DC!

NIP’s Capital Chapter took advantage of NIOBC Class 26040’s “capstone” trip to Washington D.C. to hold a no-host social in their honor on 19 August 2026 at the Commodore Bar in Old Town Alexandria. NIOBC just recently re-started sending the students to Washington D.C. for a familiarization tour of the D.C.-area agencies, such as DIA and ONI, just before they graduate, so NIP jumped on the opportunity to ensure we connected with them.

The social drew a strong turnout from the local crowd to meet and mingle with students, who are getting ready to graduate from NIOBC on 26 August. Our NIP members enjoyed talking to the young officers and hearing about their first assignments, which ranged from squadrons to JIOCs. It was a valuable opportunity for the more senior NIP members to interact with the young Naval Intelligence officers as well. Retired CAPT Bob Mc Intyre was at the social and had a great time meeting with the NIOBC students. He commented, "As I was walking to the event tonight I was thinking that it was 40 years ago that me and three other Navy LTs detached from NAVU Lowry AFB to head to Dam Neck, where we transitioned the NIOBC structure into the NMITC curriculum. I think the ensigns tonight sort of wondered about how a plank owner that old could still show up. But they sure had questions about what they were launching into!”

The chapter is looking forward to meeting the next class when it comes to town in October.

RDML (Ret) Bruce Loveless, CAPT (Ret) Stephanie Leung, and RADM Josh Himes were on hand to “mentor” and mingle with the NIOBC students.
CAPT Mike Tiefel and his wife, Jen, speak with one of the NIOBC students.
CAPT (Ret) Brian Nicholson passes on some wisdom to the young intelligence officers.
