Despite the threat of snow, NIP Capital chapter’s no-host social on 19 February at Aslin Beer Co. in Alexandria, Virginia had a strong turnout of Naval Intelligence professionals. The social was held in conjunction with the 2025 Navy Information Warfare Industry Day, which took place earlier that day at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The crowd that showed up included quite a few who came from the IW Day and others from the area -- a nice mix of active-duty, retired, reserve, and civilians. NIP Chair Vice Admiral (Ret) Bob Sharp was there, along with Rear Admirals Tom Henderschedt, Josh Himes, and Mike Brown, and ONI’s new deputy commander, Captain (Ret) Mark Elliott. It was great to see some junior officers among the attendees, too, including one of our newly commissioned Reserve ensigns. It’s never too soon to start networking and getting involved in the community!
This year's Navy Information Warfare Industry Day was also a tremendous success. AFCEA and NIP worked with OPNAV N2N6 staff to organize and run the event. There were over 300 registrants representing roughly 110 private service organizations from industry, academia and non-profits, along with government professionals from over 30 Navy, DoD and Intelligence Community commands and agencies. The agenda was developed by the N2N6 team and facilitated detailed classified discussions on the threats and challenges we face and the opportunity and necessity for partnering. The afternoon included deep-dives into priority topics to include fighting from the MOC, leveraging our research community's braintrust, future capabilities, Counter-C5ISRT, information operations environment, electronic warfare and targeting. What you spend your time doing matters. DCNO/DNI Vice Admiral “KT" Thomas, ADCNO Ms. Jen Edgin, DDNI Mr. Steve Parode, and ADDNI Ms.Sandy Brown all dedicated their entire day to the event, as did many senior members of their staffs. Seniors from across the IW community including NAVWAR, NAVIFOR, Fleet Cyber/Navy Space/10th Fleet, Chief of Navy Reserve, NAVEUR/NAVAF contributed tremendously to the day as well. All in attendance left much better informed and connected, and fully committed to collaborating closely to ensure we deliver the capabilities our forces need to outhink and outpace our competitors.
