San Diego Waterfront Information Warfare Professionals Visit USS Midway Museum

Just ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday, nearly 70 members of the San Diego waterfront Information Warfare (IW) community were given a behind-the-scenes tour by San Diego NIP Chapter board members and USS Midway docents Diana Guglielmo and Phil Eakin. The IW personnel embarked Midway on 25 November 2025 for a private "exclusive access" tour to the new CVIC spaces, METOC areas, TFCC and CIC, all of which are set in time back to 17 January 1991, the first night of Operation Desert Storm. The group was led by CDR Declan Glynn (SIO for CVN 70) and CDR Liz Clarke (ESG-3 N2) and included officers and sailors from USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), USS Boxer (LHD-4), and USS Sterett (DDG-104); the staffs of ESG-3, CSG-1, CPR-1, CPR-7, and DESRON 1; as well as squadrons HSC-4 and HSM-71. In total, the group enjoyed two hours of professional development onboard Midway. They were briefed on the CVIC exhibit design, artifact collection, and story of NIP's collaboration with the USS Midway design team to restore the spaces. Two spaces, METOC and SUPPLOT, which are not available to the public, were opened to the group for a look at what is in the works as part of USS Midway Museum's multi-year plan for exhibit development.

On the flight deck of the USS Midway, members of the San Diego waterfront IW community are briefed on the layout of CVIC and TFCC and how the two spaces were brought back to life in the Desert Shield/Desert Storm timeframe.
Diana Guglielmo briefs members of the San Diego waterfront IW community on the restoration of the Midway’s Foc'sle and how the various local commands and retirees all contributed to the process. Keeping the active duty community in San Diego engaged with the Midway is part of the museum’s sustainability.
In the CVIC spaces, Diana Guglielmo briefs the visitors on the space renovations, the history of Midway’s build up to Desert Storm and what was available to the intelligence team on 17 January 1991.
