CDR (Ret) Phil Eakin Selected as a San Diego County Volunteer of the Year

San Diego announced in March 2024 that Curatorial and Admin volunteer, Phil Eakin was been selected by the Health and Human Services Department - Aging and Independent Services Program as one of the 2024 County Volunteers of the Year for his exceptional contributions to the USS Midway Museum. The announcement stated: "His valuable support includes serving as a lead library volunteer and an integral player in the volunteer office/awards management process for nearly 20 years. He has accomplished a staggering number of feats on behalf of Midway – among them a massive award tracking database and an ambitious partnership with the Naval Institute. The San Diego Board of Supervisors will be awarding him in a ceremony on 30 April, at 8:45 AM at the County Admin Bldg. Room 302."

Notably, Eakin has been a long-time member and supporter of NIP’s San Diego Chapter. He has also been the point of access and driving force behind the now successful effort to restore the USS Midway’s CVIC spaces and is one of NIP San Diego’s members spearheading the effort to open the spaces to the public so that the role of intelligence at sea can be part of the story this great museum ship tells.

Congratulations to Phil!
