USS Midway CVIC Restoration Update: Art Processors Review Concept Art for CVIC Exhibit

On 3 September 2024, the CVIC Exhibit Committee met onboard the USS Midway Museum for an update from Art Processors. NIP members Mo Fox, Diana Guglielmo, Admiral Sharp, Stan Kowalsky, and Phil Eakin all attended the meeting. The committee reviewed the concept art for each section of CVIC for accuracy, flow, and experience. Both the Mission Planning and Strike Planning areas will include an “escape room” experience where guests will complete a series of skills before moving on to the next space. Skills include recce identification, map reading, and imagery mosaic building. Committee members discussed the theme of each space and what personnel would be involved in the various tasks.

Demolition of the spaces is ongoing and estimated to be complete in late December 2024. The Midway team will start the space development in January 2025. NIP members Phil Eakin, Diana Guglielmo, and Stan Kowalsky conducted a review of what current artifacts are available and what is needed to enhance the CVIC experience. The CVIC space will also include supporting roles from other Navy ratings like YN, DM, DP, RM, and PH, as the exhibit touches on all aspects of intelligence support to Strike Warfare during Desert Shield/Desert Storm.

We need your help!

The team at Art Processors is looking for any images from inside CVIC to assist with the authenticity and look of a typical CVIC. If you have any photos from your deployment and wouldn’t mind sharing them with the Art Processor team, please forward them to diana.guglielmo@ussmidwaydocents.org.

This will be the main entrance for guests.
This is the Multi-Sensor Interpretation (MSI) Space, which will be the first room for interactive displays.
This is the entrance to the Mission Planning space, which will have a “test” game to see if visitors have what it takes to be an intelligence professional. The kneeknocker between these two rooms is very high so the whole hatch needed to be cut out.
This area between Mission Planning and Multi-sensor interpretation is a pass through for the game area.
